Local-first spatial awareness for construction sites

Pre-field validation

Problem

Construction sites go blind once walls are closed.

Construction rework costs the industry billions each year because as-built reality often deviates from design intent. On complex job sites, existing tools fail when connectivity is unreliable, forcing teams back to paper, memory, and rework.

Why existing tools fail

Most construction software assumes reliable Wi-Fi, GPS, or cloud access. That assumption breaks down in reinforced concrete, underground spaces, and high-friction job sites where connectivity cannot be trusted.

What Rankan is

Rankan is a local-first spatial system designed to run entirely on-device. It captures and visualizes structural information without relying on cloud connectivity, enabling teams to understand what exists inside a structure before it is buried.

Current status

Rankan is in pre-field validation.

A functional single-device prototype exists and runs locally. Multi-device coordination and validation on real construction sites are the next steps.

First wedge

Accurate as-built capture before walls close.

Capturing the structural “skeleton” during construction reduces rework, preserves a reliable as-built record, and provides long-term visibility for owners and operators.

Roadmap (post-validation)

  • Multi-device spatial coordination
  • Offline peer-to-peer synchronization
  • Optional mesh networking for extreme non-line-of-sight environments
